I’m a young dude, only 28, but I have learned a lot during my time on this awesome planet. I take a lot of notes throughout my day when something feels correct so that I can remember them, and today, I want to share many of these tips with you.
These are my rules for living a happy and healthy life, and they work…
1 – Sleep better
Sleep is extremely healing. Take it seriously. If you’re having problems getting to bed at night, strive your hardest to figure out why it’s happening. In many cases, simple diet changes and life alterations can help a person get to bed easier.
2 – Stop drinking so much beer
Beer will make you fat – simple as that. I love beer, but I avoid it as much as possible. Stick to lighter drinks. Avoid mixers, and sugary additives. This is a great way to tone up and stay lean. If you must have a beer, don’t make it an everyday thing.
3 – Watch your starches
Let’s be honest here, most people eat way too many starchy selections these days. Most of these refined foods add on the pounds and can put one at risk for heart disease and diabetes. Stick to eating more vegetables. The majority of people forget that carbohydrates come in many forms, and do not just come from breads, rice, potatoes, and pasta. Carbs aren’t bad, BAD CARBS, are bad. Vegetables are a perfect source for carbohydrates.
4 – Avoid gluten as much as possible!
This has been a trending topic for some time now, and yes, it is PROVEN that gluten can be bad for one’s health. Like with the above tip, avoiding grains is key to implementing the gluten free lifestyle. From digestive complications, to bad skin, gluten intake comes with a host of downsides. avoid it at all costs! It’s not just a trend, it’s scientific fact!
5 – Help people
The golden rule to life – treat others as you wish to be treated. I implement this rule everyday of my life, even though I didn’t grow up with this type of mentality. As I have aged, I have also realized that going through life with this mindset is not only the right thing to do, it makes ME feel awesome! I enjoy helping others simply because it makes them feel good, and me as well. Try it one day – next time you see a homeless man or woman, buy them a hot meal and see how it makes the both of you feel. It’s medicinal on both ends, and it feels amazing!
6 – Laugh as much as you can
Laughter is extremely healing. The more one laughs, the more he or she will trigger euphoric happy feelings throughout their day. I make it a goal everyday to take 30-minutes and watch funny videos on Youtube to stimulate these feelings. If the body and mind know you’re happy, you can remain in this euphoric state throughout your entire life. Laughter really is the ultimate medicine.
7 – Workout and move your body everyday
Now I’m not saying that you have to hit the gym and lift heavily everyday. All I’m getting at here is the act of “moving.” I strongly encourage exercise, even if it’s just a short walk around the block. The body is meant to move, so get out into the world and move it! You’ll be surprised at just how a little movement can improve your life dramatically. Like with the previous tip, feelings of happiness can be stimulated with exercise.
8 – Always warm up before exercising
I have injured myself numerous times over the years, and most of the occurrences had to do with no warming up and/or stretching before working out. I now take 10-15 minutes before my workout circuits to stretch and warm up accordingly. Jumping rope is a great way to get this done. Stretch the muscles and stay limber.
9 – Stop drinking soda completely!
10 – Juice organic fruits and vegetables
I have been an avid juicer for over 2 years now, and I am very glad that I’ve gotten hooked on this healthy habit. As of right now, I juice about 5 days per week, and am off all medications! I feel awesome, and I owe much of it to juicing. And let’s be honest here, your probably not eating enough raw fruits and vegetables anyway, am I right?
11- Have one day a week to go out and have fun with your friends
Breaks are always needed. I say 1 day per week to party because any more than 1 day can be a bit excessive (if you drink that is). Don’t go crazy, but make sure to set aside some time for you and the ones you care about. Even if it doesn’t involve alcohol and going out, do something fun.
12- If you have great parents, express your gratitude and love for them
I have awesome parents! And I tell them both as much as I can how much I appreciate their love. They are my best friends, and I want them to know just how special they are to me. I would’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for their love and support. Express your feelings and see how it makes them feel.
13 – If you’re in serious debt, stop thinking about it so much!
I know, I know, this is very hard to do! But you’ll be very surprised at how the act of “thinking” can greatly influence your financial situation. The law of attraction is something that I believe in quite heavily now. Try it out – change the way in which you think, and see if your life changes. Attract wealth, happiness, and health into your life with your thoughts.
14 – Get rid of STUFF – clean out your clutter
I am very organized, but I wasn’t always like this. As I began maturing, I started realizing that a minimalist lifestyle keeps me balanced and efficient. I get in bad moods when things are messy and out of place, so I make a conscious effort to keep my life (and my stuff) organized and free of clutter. I can thank my wonderful mother for getting into this habit (love you Ma)
15 – Be optimistic – don’t think of the “bad” that can happen in life
Once again, like with the previous tip, I haven’t always gone through life with this mindset. I used to be an angry person with negative feelings and a lot of pent up energy. I began realizing that the more optimistic I became, the better my days were. Now, when I’m feeling down, I immediately smile and think of something positive. This works! It completely changes the brain’s chemistry.
16 – Drink water immediately upon waking
Water is the base of all life. Drinking it first thing in the morning is a great way to get things moving and in gear. Right when I wake up, I chug 2 huge glasses of H2O. It helps with digestion, mental clarity, and dozens of other vital bodily functions.
17 – Don’t skip leg day
Time and time again, I see guys and gals focusing on certain muscle groups without paying attention to the strength of their legs, core, and lower body. The legs and the core of the body are where true strength is derived. Without these areas in check, a person will not be strong – period. Make sure you don’t skip leg days
18 – Wake up early everyday, even if you have the day off
I’m an early riser, and I have been for some time now. I enjoy getting things done early in the AM because it make me feel accomplished and energized. My recommendation is to get in the habit of waking early, even if you have nothing to do. Be productive in your morning routines. “The early bird truly does get the worm.”
19 – Use healthy body products and cosmetics
I have been an avid “healthy product user” for about 8 years now, and I know my decisions have played a vital role in my health overall. Ever since subtracting all of my toxic lotions, soaps, deodorants, and fragrances from the picture, I feel A LOT better. I now use safer products that I research HERE.
20 – Read your ingredient labels
Those who read, understand what it is they’re eating. My rule “If you can’t read it, don’t eat it!” Toss the junk, eat REAL food. Understand that real food spoils, and fake food is loaded with chemicals and preservatives to maintain shelf-life. Step your food game up! Start reading!
21 – Go to farmers markets and eat organic
No, I’m not a hippie, but I do eat like one. Organic food is how food is supposed to be. Sure, it’s more expensive, but the cost of disease surly outweighs that of organic food. I buy about 90% of my items organic, and have noticed a HUGE increase in my overall health. Understand that leading a conventional lifestyle is toxic. On top of this, strive your absolute hardest to eat clean foods 95% of the time.
22 – Travel and see as much of the world as you can
This is a tough one, I know. Sometimes it takes an entire lifetime for one to do such a thing, but it is possible. Make it a goal that you want to see the world, even if it feels like a goal that may never happen. This planet is a beautiful place, and most go their whole life only seeing a small part of it.
23 – Be one with nature
See and acknowledge the beauty of nature. Get outside and enjoy all that Mother Earth has to offer. For many people, city life is the norm, but it’s important to break away from such settings and witness the miracles that nature provides. Go camping, take a backpacking trip – get out there!
24 – Pay with cash as much as you can
25 – Read books
Believe it or not, knowledge is still obtained from these bound pieces of paper with words printed on them. They’re called “books,” and even during the age of the Internet, the act of “reading” is linked with more intelligent behavior. Those who read are smarter – no question. Read, learn, and be a smart cookie
26 – Don’t rush to get married so quickly
I’m at the age where EVERYBODY is getting married, and as much as I’d like to be happy for most of these people, I know that many of them will end in divorce. Yes, we have a very high divorce rate in this country, and it isn’t getting any better. My advice? Don’t get married because society says it’s time, do it when you feel your heart is ready. I know too many people that get married because of societal pressures.
27 – Train Martial Arts
I have so much respect for the martial arts world, as I have seen what it can do for some people. Many of my friends are involved with Brazilian jiu jitsu and Muay Thai and it has changed their lives dramatically. Discipline, competition, and respect are all qualities that can be gained and honed via the martial arts world.
28 – Pursue your dreams, one day at a time
I say “one day at a time” because some people get overwhelmed with achieving their dreams and goals. Don’t think that it will all come easy, but also don’t think your dreams are impossible to achieve. Set aside time each day to focus on your true life’s work. For me, it’s writing, and I do it every single day of my life. Even if I have nothing in mind to discuss, I create new content all the time. Some of my best articles come from “spur of the moment” urges to write.
And these are my tips to living better. I hope you enjoyed them. Please share this article if you found it helpful. Much love to you all…
