Is raw milk really all that scary?
Is it that dangerous?
Or are all of these “scare tactics” just some lame attempts to outlaw something that’s actually good for the body?
We want to try to get the record straight, so let’s start with the “what” question first…
What the hell is raw milk anyway?
Ok, so to cut out all of the confusing science talk, and keep things simple like we usually do, we’ll say that raw milk is basically untouched.
Kinda how Mama Nature likes it ![]()
Raw milk is unpasteurized, un-homogenized, and pretty much untampered with.
And that’s what has the masses all freaked out!
You see, this grade of milk really isn’t processed, and for some reason, that scares a lot of people. On top of that, the government has launched some pretty nasty campaigns against raw dairy, so it’s a definite battle that we need to discuss.
There are many dominant forces working AGAINST the raw movement, and it’s getting to be somewhat of a problem.
Let’s talk about the safety issue…
Is raw milk safe to drink
The simple answer – yes.
But there is a lot of confusion as to why that is…
You see, raw milk is not dangerous if it’s coming from cows that are treated well, and ones that are fed healthy.
If there is a clean farm, with healthy cows and awesome living conditions, the dairy products are going to be of great quality.
But if there is a farm that’s loaded with disease (commercial operations), packed full of cows, and is of unacceptable living standards, the product is going to be of absolute s#!t quality.
Makes sense, right?
- Good environment = good product.
- Bad environment = bad product.
And this is how more people should see it.
Also, being that living conditions are a BIG part of this entire topic, we would never want to drink raw milk from a commercially run operation.
CAFO’s (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) are nasty, and we’d be scared to drink anything raw from such an operation.
Local, small, and clean is what we definitely recommend here, and please, don’t believe anything else. The little guys know what’s up, and this is also why we totally support local farming.
Large, commercial, and overpopulated dirty farms produce dirty junk.
Mainstream cows eat:
And much more…
You see, the thing to realize here is that cows (or animals in general) should not be seen as garbage disposals, but they are treated as such within these large operations.
Cows eat what they’re given, so it’s the farmers who are truly at fault here. On top of that, government subsides are fueling the system in place.
So as you can see, there is a giant force that will be hard to break, but it’s not impossible. We’re not advocating to put farmers out of business, all we’re asking for is a little change in how these operations are typically run.
- A cow should be fed like a cow.
- A cow SHOULD eat grass.
- A cow should NOT be eating grains, plastic, or feed pellets.
And that’s the simple truth…
Actually, just the other day, we heard that some farmers are starting to feed their cows candy! Now we don’t know if this is true, but if it is, it’s a huge disappointment and a definite turn in the WRONG direction!
Some farmers just need to wake up!
You see, a cattle’s diet, environment, and overall living conditions need to be of good quality if that animal is to yield a healthy product.
And, for the most part, RAW milk cows seem to live pretty well. But that is only if they’re grass-fed, able to roam freely, and fall into the whole “organic” lifestyle.
Grass-fed cow’s are definitely NOT eating nutter-butters, snickers, and twix bars ![]()
They’re eating GRASS! Just like they’re supposed to!
What sucks here is that there are a lot of unhappy farm animals out there, and we’re totally NOT in support of such horrid living conditions. Animal cruelty is a terrible epidemic that needs to be stopped, so BIG UPS to vegans for that argument ![]()
What we also want people to realize here is that most of the pasteurized junk (outside of some grass-fed organic selections) are coming from these types of operations, and that ‘s just not cool with us.
Grass-fed cows actually produce milk that has better properties than that regular old commercial-grade junk, and this is why we often preach the raw selections.
Bottom line – RAW quality tends to be superior!
Now let’s talk about that pasteurization issue…
Pasteurization and why it totally SUCKS!
When discussing the pasteurization issue, one must realize that “pasteurizing dairy” basically deals with heating up the product to destroy things like bacteria.
Seems good, right?
But you see, this process also downgrades the quality of the milk, and destroys crucial enzymes that are needed to break it all down within the body for proper digestion. Good bacteria is also being destroyed in this process as well.
Sure, maybe some nasty things are handled in the pasteurizing process, but that’s not to say that the body can’t deal with such threats.
The human body can actually handle a lot, and most people tend to forget that…
To be honest, the bacteria salmonella and/or e. coli type threats are all blown WAY out of proportion if you ask us, as these “dangers” should all be looked at a bit differently.
The government definitely pushes the “salmonella threat” to the fullest.
What’s crazy is that we know some pretty healthy people that eat raw eggs, and drink loads of raw milk on the daily, but their bodies can handle such foods because they’re generally healthy people.
The little threats that may be of concern are nothing to such a strong and well-functioning immune system.
Yes, salmonella can be very dangerous, but it’s not as big of a threat as our so-called “health savvy” government makes it out to be.
But hold on a second, we want to clarify something here…
A real sick, or unhealthy person may not be able to handle the raw stuff as easily as a healthy person, but that’s probably because they’re smashing twinkies, and pepsi all day.
Just sayin’…
Those who care little of their diet/health will not be able to fight off threats as effortlessly as those who DO care.
Simple nature of the health game.
But what if I’m lactose-intollerant?
Great question! But guess what?
You CAN still drink raw milk if you’re lactose intolerant.
Well how can that be?
Easy!
Untreated RAW milk is loaded with enzymes and lactase-producing bacteria that the human body requires to break down the milk sugar lactose.
The bacteria that we speak of here are pretty much killed in the pasteurization/homogenization process, so it’s no wonder why millions of people can’t digest the mainstream junk!
Commercial-grade dairy is NOT equipped with the tools that are needed to handle and process everything accordingly.
People are lactose intolerant to “crap dairy,” not necessarily RAW dairy.
But that’s not to say that ALL can handle it.
Our advice?
Try it out, and gauge your response.
If you think you can’t handle pasteurized dairy, you should definitely try the raw stuff.
Personally speaking, both of us get majorly jacked up if we drink or eat commercial-grade dairy, but raw is a different story. We can both handle it.
We know, it sounds weird, but it’s true.
No digestion issues if either of us are drinkin’ milk in the raw form…
Believe it ![]()
So what’s in Raw milk anyway?
A lot!

And SO much more!
Actually, to be honest, we kind of see raw milk as a type of superfood, simply because it’s loaded with so much awesomeness!
On top of that, it’s also packed with loads of vitamins!
Check it out:
So as you can see, there is a lot to look at here.
And all of that commercial junk simply can’t compare.
We can literally go on and on here, but we ain’t gonna do that to ya ![]()
So we’ll just leave with our end conclusion…
The end message with raw milk
It’s simple.
- Raw milk is perfectly healthy. And although NOT everybody can handle it, most can. It’s pure, like nature intended, and commercial-grade pasteurized dairy is not.
- Mainstream milk is treated in such a way that it kills off all of the good qualities, so it is of little benefit to the body. This is also why most people are “allergic” to the conventional garbage.
- Raw milk cattle are typically (for the most part) healthier animals, and commercial cows are not. And this is why RAW dairy should only be coming from clean operations that have healthy animals.
There is an obvious war being waged between local small farming operations and giant government backed ones, and we’re doing our best to support the little guys.
So who do you think deserves to win?
The little guys, or the big dogs?
We ask because it seems as though anything mass produced is going to have higher monetary objectives behind its use than the smaller guys, and this is why we need your voice.
Raw dairy is blasted in a false light because there are MAJOR forces working against it. But all of that can change if YOU decide to join the fight.
Share this post to be heard, help get the word out, and help us in spreading the REAL RAW message.
We support local farming on a smaller scale simply because it’s healthier – for people, and for mother nature.

You’ve done a great job with the article! Raw milk sounds great! Honestly, I’d love to give it a shot, but where do you go about buying it?? Isn’t it ‘illegal’ to transport for sale or something like that?
I’m in Texas, so I guess I could wait till the Farmer’s Market opens up again, but in the meantime, any suggestions?
Thanks for your time.
Hey Chris, not sure what Texas laws are regarding the sale of raw dairy. Out here in Cali, some stores allow it, and some don’t. The Weston Price foundation has a TON of info on the sale of raw milk as well, we recommend checkin them out. Farmers markets are a great place to start! Thanks for the comment Chris!
My husband and I adopted a baby boy last April… he LOVES and is thriving on his raw milk formula – I switched to that from commercial formula ((UGH!) at 4 months and at his 6 month appointment, he jumped from 50% to 75% percentiles so the doc couldn’t complain!). I use the Weston A Price foundation recipe.
Living in VA, we had to buy a cow share in order to get the raw milk. It’s delivered weekly to a drop point from the farm. I love supporting our local farmers!
That is so awesome Laura! The Weston A Price foundation is extra legit, so we definitely commend you on your knowledge and dedication. Keep up the great work Laura! And thanks for supporting local farmers
Raw milk is SO good and so much better for you. We are lucky to be able to get it locally along with raw dairy products. The "big guy" junk is just empty caloric sugar bombs, especially when you take the fat out of it since fat is used to transport whatever nutrients remain in our bodies. Full fat, raw milk is the way to go. Fills you up with less and carries far more nutrients that our body can not only break down but use due to the enzymes those sweet girls provide us.
